Used by some models who spend endless hours under studio Sunlight and diets rather than daylight, the light box is a useful invention if your job often stops you from seeing the light ( so it could be more useful than you think! ). It’s also useful by many of the women who suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), and it involves sitting close to a special light box for beween 30 minutes and two hours a day.

You need to be exposed to a minimum dose of around 2,500 lux ( a measurement of brightness ). Ordinary domestic or office lighting emits only about 200 – 500 lux. On a bright summer’s day the intensity can be up to 100,000 lux.

Some light boxes double as an alarm clock by waking you with a sunrise imitation, others can be carried around like a briefcase or worn like a sun visor so you can use it while you’re doing other things, such as having breakfast in the Sunlight light for skin.

Light boxes are useful as an alternative to sunlight if you’re house – or office – bound, and some companies offer them on a trial basis, or you can hire or buy them.

A word of warning, however : many  of these machines don’t reach the minimum lux requirement, so check that they at least reach 2,500 and preferably 5,000 – 10,000 lux in the Sunlight and diets.

‘It’s not about looking good ; it’s about being 100 percent honest to yourself about being healthy. That means eating organic food whenever possible and making an effort not to eat processed food, to drink water and not drink alcohol. It’s easy to kid yourself, but what’s the point in that ?
