The alarm bells about unwarranted and unmonitored oestrogen supplements began to surface when links between breast cancer and HRT usage became apparent. There are potential risks after being on HRT for five or more years. There is an increased risk of ovarian cancer after being on HRT for ten years and if a woman has had fibroids or endrometriosis. HRT could exacerbate either condition.
