VITAL TO GOOD LOOKS Skin structure and making a good first impression is crucial: everyone knows that. While clothing, makeup, and hairstyle are all of importance, one of the first things people notice about you is your skin. A trip to the hair dresser, an updating of her wardrobe, and regular exercise took care of the rest. She doesn’t look 25, but she does look and feel her best. Her appearance now reflects her feelings of youthful vitality. In her own words: “I feel fortunate that so many options to keep me looking and feeling my best are available as I get older.” Skin care products and this type of experience is not unique to women. George is 42 years old and has been divorced for a couple of years. While dating a 28-year-old interior designer, he overheard the describing him to a friend. “Well he’s smart, wears great clothes, and has a terrific body, but he’s a bit older than I am. He’s 42, but I don’t think he would look so old if he wasn’t going bald.” George was aware that he was thinning on top but he had no idea Catherine thought be looked old because of it. At the dermatologist’s office, he was relieved to find he wasn’t the only man with such concerns and was pleased to discover there was something he could do about his baldness. She commented to the group of children that playing in the water had made her hand look tired and old. One of her students looked up at her and replied: “It makes your face look tired ad old, too.” Out of the mouths of babes! Although Joan was amused by this response, she was also taken aback. She had been relatively unaware of the signs of age creeping up on her face. The effects of time and years of unprotected sun exposure were becoming quite pronounced.
