Problems of laser resurfacing|Skin care treatments

Skin care treatments

Problems of laser resurfacing and normal social activities and work may be resumed

Once the scabs have fallen off (in 10 to 14 days), even though the skin is still quite red.  The redness may last for 3 to 6 months.

What complications may occur?

The potential problems associated with laser resurfacing are:

Scarring:  Problematic scarring may result, but rarely occurs when the surgery is performed by an experienced surgeon.

When it does occur it is usually due to an inherited tendency for excessive scarring

Or may e due to the laser light having penetrated too deeply in Problems of laser resurfacing.

Acne/Perioral Dermatitis:  After laser resurfacing the oil gland openings are temporarily swollen and prone to blockage.

If we add to this the occlusion of a dressing, petroleum jelly and other topical preparations, acne/or perioral dermatitis, wherein the glands become inflamed, may occur.

These conditions are readily treated with medications that open the pores, cleanse them and allow ongoing drainage.

Usually topical mixtures of mild cortisone and antibiotics suffice, but oral antibiotics may be required.

Strong cortisone mixtures actually worsen the problem if used for more than a very brief interval.

Here is where ‘reading the skin’s needs’ is crucial to resolution of the problem and dermatologic experience is essential for successful resolution of these complications in Cosmetic creams.

Pigmentation Change: Altered pigmentation may occur.  This depends on the depth of the laser resurfacing the color of the patient’s skin, and the unpredictable nature of repigmentation and rejuvenation of the skin.

Milia: Tiny, white cysts are rare, but may occur.  They are easily removed with electrodesiccation of the CO2 laser in Skin care treatments.

Other problems:  Although rare, infection, persistent redness, and a lack of response to the treatment may occur.

Can the implants be used in other ways?

The signs of aging around the mouth are cosmetically annoying to many women.  Collagen is used to add definition to the fading borders of the lips and to soften the fine lines around the mouth.

The implant material is injected along the vermilion borders of the upper and lower lips and into any deep furrows extending out from the lip.

Women delight in the fact that their lipstick no longer bleeds into the wrinkles around their mouth.

However, collagen implants must be repeated to maintain their effectiveness.  For a more permanent solution, laser resurfacing should be considered inCosmetic creams.

Large well defined lips are also one of today’s signatures of beauty and this same technique is used to augment the lips of women of all ages.  To add further definition to the heart shaped area of the upper lip, known as the Cupid’s Bow, the collagen is injected into the vertical ridges between the upper lip and the nose in Cosmetic creams.

Some cosmetic surgeons may also inject collagen into the red fleshy part of the lips to plump them up.  The risk of hitting a small blood vessel exists and if this should happen, crusting and loss of some lip tissue may occur.  It is for this reason, except in exceptional circumstances, implants are best limited to the outline of the lip.
