Beet is believed to be original product of the Mediterranean region of Europe and South Western Asia. It has been used as a vegetable for the last 2,000 years.

Early Greeks and Romans used to consume it profusely. It is now widely cultivated in the Caribbean, Indonesia, Philippines, Central East and West Africa and Malaysia.

It is also cultivated in India. Beet is a bulbous root. It resembles top. It is of 2 colors violet and white.

The red beet, commonly known as garden beet, is a juicy root vegetable. It can be distinguished by its individual flavor. Beets have several varieties.
