How to dye

Dyeing products

Dyeing  is an art has to be performed with care. Only using a dye is not enough.,

Dyeing products using it skillfully is necessary to make them look natural and attractive.Hair can be dyed by three methods :

  1. Dyeing with dye shampoo or colouring oil.
  2. Dyeing with herbs
  3. Dyeing with chemical dyes. In India we do not use dye  shampoo or oil. Much we depend on herbal dyes and chemical dyes

Do not aspire for a radical color change, for it does not suit to your face unless you change your makeup, dress color etc.

For example the lipstick which is used to suit you as a blonde (pale or golden browny looking hair) or dress which is used to give your personality a lift up.

May not suit you when you become blackhead How to dye. So dyeing also involves other expenses .

Color of your hair should not be very different from the natural color of your hair. For instance if you have got golden or brown color then red or dark brown would go very well but not the dark black.

To get a black tint in your dye use some coffee or tea leaves with your henna.

Hair which has just had a perm may not take color and newly-colored hair may not perm well either. So do not worry if either of the two happens. Hence, avoid doing so.

How to dye When dyeing your hair try out the effect on a cutting of hair first or under the ear.

Since the ends of the hair are the most porous part and accept the dye more readily.

So you can see the full effect before you take the plunge. Also the skin near the ear is very delicate, therefore, its reactions can be studied well.

Henna dyes give dark hair a reddish color. But the exact color result is very difficult to predict so a test dye is very essential. Henna dye can be made following the under mentioned method:

Henna powder 2 cups

Hot water 1 cup

Vinegar 1 tsp

Stir them all to a thick paste and let this stand for 1 hour. Pour it into a bowl and put this bowl in a saucepan filled with water. Keep the paste stirring till the water in the bottom of the saucepan bubbles freely. Let the mixture stand for another hour, then apply the mixture into each strand of the hair by parting hair with a comb. Start applying henna from one side of the head and working to the other end. Leave the henna on your head for 3-6 hours.

Do not use henna dye on blonde, grey or bleached hair.

Treat the hair with balsam and protein conditioners before applying henna dye.

Chamomile lightens dull brown hair. Infuse a handful of chamomile flowers in a cup of boiling water, leave for a few hours, then strain.

Use this water as a rinse after shampooing.

To apply the dye cover the hairline with vaseline and brush in henna with a small brush. Apply the henna from the roots to the end of the hair strands, going over the head in sections. Wrap the head with a polythene bag and put on a shower cap or cover it with a scarf.

With Black hair dye, especially if it is permanent it is recommended to let it grow out and not bleach it, as it is very hard to get out black dye completely. Bleaching with chemicals also damages the hair it may result in hair becoming so stretchy and thin that it may come out even while combing the hair. Care has to be taken that the bleaching is done in a manner that the black color is removed evenly.

After bleaching using a toner is recommended which will reduce the orangey tone of the hair. The toner also conditions the hair and does not further damage it. An option available with people is using other colored dyes to removing black hair dye after some mild bleaching and shampooing.

A powder bleach mixed with a shampoo and conditioner can be used. Prepare a mix of Shampoo / Conditioner and bleach with equal parts of water. The ingredients have to be mixed till a creamy consistency is obtained. The mix has to be applied evenly and quickly.

This process slows down the bleaching process and reduces strain on the hair. If unable to carry out the process at home for lack of time or expertise, a visit to the salon is recommended where the dye can be removed using color removers.

The success of the process also depends on the period for which the dye has remained in your hair.

If applied recently it is easier to remove and colour correction is easier but on the whole the process can be a time consuming one requiring more than one trip to the salon. An alternative to using Black hair dye can be using a combination of Indigo dye, which is blue, and Henna which will give shades from red to brown. It is natural and with no side effects of the chemical black hair dyes but on the flip side the process is a lengthy one.
