OXYGEN THERAPY This is probably the hottest concept at the time of writing, with models such as Cindy Crawford and Christy Turlington going for it at New York’s exclusive Bliss Day spa. It involves ‘blasting’ the skin with pure oxygen supplemented by oxygen – enhanced creams. Cosmetic dentistry and some companies such as Karen Herzog offer oxygen products which should be more than a lot of hot air with price tags around L 75 for either a therapy session or a bottle of cream. REJUVANESSENCE Rejuvanessence is a facial massage which claims to pump out the skin and leave it more elastic. A month’s course of six treatments costs around L 400. SKIN REGENERATION Facial skin carea and this is an outgrowth of CACI, using ultrasound vibrations to peel off the top layer of skin to improve the appearance and tone of the face. It sis said to be more pleasant than chemical peeling in a salon, with high concentration AHAs ( alpha hydroxyl acids) but works much the same way and leaves the skin firmer. Gel is put on the face and scraped off. It costs about L30 a session from salons. ULTRA SOUND FACIAL Facial skin care and this is a home unit with two probes to charge a current through the skin. You’re supposed to use this daily to plump up the skin and to tone underlying muscles. It costs about L20. Keeping Apace Every week three seems to be some new cosmetic surgery development or break through which promises to make us all look younger or sort out our most niggling body flaw. But resist the urge to be a guinea pig for the latest and the greatest, and rely more on valid research findings published in medical journals than what you might read in the tabloid press. If you see a reference to a new study in a magazine or newspaper, call and get a copy of the complete report to read the findings for your self. Many valid, safe and less expensive techniques become available each year.
