Low carb high fat diets also argue that fat in the diet only contributes to heart disease in the presence of high insulin levels and that if the diet is instead adjusted to induce ketosis.

A 2003 meta-analysis that included a randomized controlled trials published after the Cochrane review found that Low carb low calorie diets, non-energy-restricted diets appear to be at least as effective as low-fat, energy-restricted diets in inducing weight loss for up to 1 year.
