How soon can normal activities be resumed?

Normal activity can be resumed within 3 days and is limited only by the amount of discomfort experienced.  By 6 weeks, healing should be complete.  There is no restriction of driving or flying.

Does a breast lift increase the chances of getting cancer?

Breast cancer and the risk of developing breast cancer does not increase with this procedure. 

Patients who re having serial mammographies due to fibrocystic disease are encouraged to have a repeat mammogram at about 6 months to establish a new baseline for their breasts.

Is breast-feeding possible after a breast lift?

Breast surgery and the ability to breast-feed remains the same following a breast lift as before. 

Women should not have a breast lift until they have finished having children because pregnancy and breast-feeding will stimulate a temporary enlargement and stretching of the breast. 

This may cause further drooping of the breasts, and will counteract the positive benefits of the surgery.

Why might the procedure be unsatisfactory?

Breast cancer and if the breasts droop again, it may be due to poor skin quality (lost elasticity and resilience), or heavy breasts.

In the case of heavy breasts, the excess breast tissue drops into the lower half of the breast, giving the nipple-areolar complex the appearance of being too high. 

This can be corrected with a breast reduction where the excess breast tissue is removed from the lower half of the breast.  Another reason for sagging breasts could be weight loss after a breast lift. 

If the problem is due to an inadequate amount of lift or if the breasts are symmetrical, the procedure can be repeated approximately 12 months after the original surgery using the same incisions.      

Who does a breast lift and what is the cost?

Breast surgery and a board certified cosmetic surgeon usually with a specialization in plastic surgery problems breast lifts.  It costs about $1,500 to $4,000 for a breast lift alone and $2,500 to $6,000 for a breast lift combined with a breast enlargement.

Breast Asymmetry

A certain degree of breast asymmetry, where one breast is larger than the other, is normal and to be expected.

If, however, one breast varies significantly from the other in volume or posture resulting in marked asymmetry, the problem can be corrected using the principles of breast augmentation, reduction and lift.
