Health care and One of the most frightening faces of anti ageing medicine has always been cryogenics, Celebrated or, most likely, cautioned against, in science fiction and in the recent Mel Gibson tearjerker Forever Young, freezing people into a state of suspended animation seems somehow scary and barbaric.

Yet experiments with dogs and baboons have shown that it is possible to resuscitate a brain (and body) that has been chilled to a low enough temperature to put it into a state of stasis.

Body care treatments and while the technique has not yet progressed far enough to allow reanimation of the dead, experiments are now underway using what was been learned to protect victims of accidents and traumas.

This has been made possible by the development far below those at which blood is viable, research that has come from the growing organ transplant field, where hearts and lungs and livers and kidneys need to be nourished by these blood substitutes when they are having an out of body experience in the Health care.

Dr Ronald Klatz of the A4M and his team at Life Resuscitation Technologies in the States are developing what he calls a Brain Resuscitation Device (BRD) which would allow the brain of an accident victim to be quickly cooled to give surgeons a chance to repair other damage without risk if the brain dying due to lack of blood.

Body care treatments and Similar principles are being tested in Britain during heroic surgery at one major hospital.

The idea is to cool and nourish the brain with the blood substitute solution so that dramatic blood loss or even a stopped heart doesn’t destroy it.

A heart can be restarted or transplanted but once the brain has died from as little as four minutes without oxygen there is no hops.

Body care treatments and the American military are very keen on the idea, and Dr. Klatz believes that it should prevent many deaths not only on the battlefield but from car accidents, surgery carrying a high risk of blood loss and other traumas.

He says the technology could soon be easily carried on ambulances in a form no bigger than a briefcase.

It could have huge repercussions. But Dr Klatz points out, ‘We’re not talking about freezing, we’re talking about chilling.

While we have the technology to freeze a human being, defrosting one would still be sort of like trying to defrost a lettuce, which will come out all soggy and not in the state in which it was frozen. A chilling thought.
